Commissioned by the Indiana Ambassadors of Music for their European Tour, First Flight is a fanfare spurred by the idea of taking to the skies! The opening mallet ostinatos and fluttering woodwinds mimic the nervousness and excitement of flying in a plane for the first time. A sense of wonder is represented by the resounding brass harmonies and nimble percussion patterns.  The ensemble is finally unified for take-off in the tutti moments found throughout the piece.
